It was tempting for me to list the Alumni Association as an educational point as opposed to experienced as my main responsibility at the organization was to learn. The Alumni Association was the first taste of linux and basic networking that I had and I would identify it as the experience that led me into the speciallization that I am currently seeking.

I was immedietly immersed into a world of linux desktops and servers including the set-up, maintenence, and operation of them. Throughout my time there I was responsible for setting up several servers which are still in use today including an e-mail server which handles a listserv of almost 80,000 subscribers.

In addition to learning the linux command line interface and server set-up I was given some test servers in my cubicle and my task was to set-up a miniture internetwork in my area. I set-up a NAT gateway, DHCP, E-mail, file and print sharing and was able to ping in and out of my area to the main Alumni Association network. Another one of my responsibilities included testing new open source server software such as server monitoring as well as social networking sites for alumni.

My final responsibility at the Alumni Association was the maintenence of workstation computers, a task which I had been doing for several years at several other jobs, by this point the troubleshooting of errors and updating of software was like a second nature to me and did not distract me from my desire to dig deeper into the world of internetworking and servers.
